3rd Wednesday of Each Month
While ladies Circle & Men's Brotherhood hold their monthly meetings, the youth are also treated to a special night. Pizza is served and we have either a guest speaker or an outreach project.
Youth's "Chosen Charity"
In Hopes that the youth group will harvest a life-long love for helping those in need, each month our Youth Group choses an organization in which to focus their community outreach project. Past organizations have been the St. Judes Children's Ranch, our local Good Neighbor Shelter and the local Children's Shelter.
If you would like to recommend a charity for the upcoming year, please let any of the youth leaders know.
Adopt-A-Soldier
The youth have adopted four soldiers and write them throughout the year. They also collect items to send in care packages. A box is located in the Sanctuary. Soldier addresses are located near the announcement board. Here is a short list of needed items:
baby wipes, phone cards, magazines, books, movies, hand warmers, foot warmers, tooth brushes, mouthwash, febreeze, body wash, body spray, pringles, crackers, beef jerky, comic books, travel size games, decks of cards, memory sticks, sunscreen, non-carbonated drinks, underwear, thumb tacks, hard candy, blue and black pens, notebooks and envelopes.
Weekend Backpack Program
The youth group is sponsoring five children in the Weekend Backpack Program through Haley Turner's school. Each week we fill up a bag of food for the kids' to take home so that they have something to eat over the weekend. Kendal has done it herself the past two weeks and has been buying items that the kid's can fix for themselves.... a fresh loaf of bread, PBJ, single serve Chef Boy R Dee, single serve fruit cups, cookie packs, a 1 liter Coke, cracker packs, etc. It averages between $10 and $15 per child. We need some volunteers to sponsor one of the kids each. Kendal will get the food and deliver it to Haley if you can just provide the funds once or twice a month. She can also draw up a sheet to keep up with whose week it is if that would make it easier or you can sponsor a child for a month at a time. Let her know if you are interested.
Coat Drive
We are also going to start up the coat/glove/hat drive too. Kendal will get a tote to the church for donations.
Youth Postal Service
The postal service is a free service to all church members. If you'd like to send a letter or a card to another member, simply place the letter in the white mailbox located in the back hall. The youth will hand-deliver your letter the following Sunday, no postage required.
How to Support the Youth
Don't forget... Every 2nd Sunday night service offering goes toward the youth program. Make a note to remind yourself to support the youth through these monthly offerings.
Did You Know...
You can communicate with the youth leaders by placing letters, donations and other items in the white mailbox located in the back hall.
